because it’s not, the common tongue is; the targaryens specifically abandoned much of their culture (religion, language, rituals) and changed from valyrian to westerosi when they united the kingdoms - the only things they kept were the imagery and weapons and customs that would assert their power (dragons and dragon iconography, valyrian steel, marrying in the bloodline to keep them “pure” - aka keep their features distinctly valyrian)

but ghis is a part of the world where the ghost of valyria is very much alive (they’re still speaking their language!!!) and dany knows that and she uses that and she very purposefully turns the tables on the slavemasters using language to remind them that she has the power

in front of these people she does not want to be the exiled princess of a country half a world away - she is the blood of old valyria and now that she has dragons that means something again 

and she doesn’t need to do this - she has the dragons, and the unsullied - but she uses history and culture and performance to assert herself anyway and
